Culinary

This position prepares food for banquets and a la carte service, as well as assists our chefs on the service 'line.' The culinary intern also works directly with the service staff, managers and culinary team to ensure that high quality food is prepared to order for members and their guests.

Galley Grill

This position is responsible for walk-up food service at the Galley Grill, a lakeside dining option at the heart of CIC recreation, providing a casual dining experience for members and their guests by utilizing a team of four to five staff members. The Galley intern works directly with managers and the culinary team to ensure high quality food is prepared to order for members and their guests.

Dock Shop

This position manages the Dock Shop, an active retail store with beautiful lakefront views, providing members and their guests with a convenient store front for various merchandise, food and beverage selections. The Dock Shop intern is responsible for business operations, including, but not limited to, scheduling, inventory, marketing strategy, procedure creation and member relations, as well as communicating needs and opportunities to CIC management.

Food & Beverage

This position works with managers to provide excellent service during dining service and events, as well as supervises various rooms across campus to maintain a smooth-running dining experience. The food & beverage intern also assists in small and large banquet set ups, tear downs and service to members and their guests. 

Hotel Customer Service

This position works within a team of staff members, providing accurate and detailed information efficiently on all aspects of club amenities and events for members and their guests. At the hub of the Club, the hotel customer service intern ensures guest happiness through customer service, takes reservations for the hotel and restaurant, answers department questions and works on various projects at the Club.

Outside Business Operations

This hybrid position assists with day-to-day business operations outside the Club and across campus. The outside business operations intern also works with multiple departments and staff, including marina, pool, events, maintenance and grounds.

Inside Business Operations

This hybrid position assists with day-to-day business operations inside the Main Clubhouse. The inside business operations intern works with multiple departments and staff, including marketing, human resources and sales (membership). Duties include various administrative tasks; such as developing, maintaining and managing aspects of marketing communications, assisting with onboarding procedures for new employees, giving club tours for prospective members, responding to member questions and concerns and providing accurate and detailed information on all aspects of club amenities and events.

Marketing

This position assists the marketing department in developing, maintaining and managing all aspects of communications for Catawba Island Club by marketing its programs and activities to over 1,300 families as members. The marketing intern works closely with all departments on campus, with their main duties consisting of updating the Club’s website, producing weekly emails, developing social media campaigns and preparing all internal and external print materials. The ideal candidate is proactive and comfortable with multitasking in a deadline-driven environment, as well as works quickly yet accurately with minimal supervision.

Video/Photography

This position is designed to provide once in a lifetime opportunity within the hospitality and tourism industry. The video/photography intern assists with all photo and video creative needs of Catawba Island Club through planning, executing and collaborating with the marketing and events departments. Their main duties consist of capturing, editing and delivering photos and videos to support CIC’s print and digital marketing materials. The ideal candidate is a self-starter and creative thinker, as well as acquires basic photography and videography skills.

Human Resources

This position assists the organizational development manager and employee specialist with screening new applicants via Applicant Pro, as well as helps with onboarding procedures for seasonal employees, including tours, employee housing, resources for international students and much more.

Golf Operations

This position assists in the facilitation of day-to-day operations, coordination and supervision of outside operations staff, golf cart fleet management, tournament operations (Golf Genius Software) and tee time management, as well as group and junior golf instructions.

Courts Operations

This position assists in the facilitation of day-to-day operations for the tennis and pickleball courts. Such duties include, but not limited to, court maintenance, tournament coordination and teaching group and one-on-one clinics for men, women and youth. The courts operations intern also works closely with the events team to curate various court events, as well as the marketing team to produce a weekly newsletter.

Event Management

Social and Corporate Events Intern

The social and corporate events intern assists in detailing events, creating event sheets and confirming/checking set-ups. At times, this intern will help execute events with the operations team in whatever way is determined by the event coordinator and operations manager; such as event set ups, serving, busing, bartending, tear downs and resets. This position is not limited to working special events, and at times, will be asked to assist the events and operations teams with other events or dining service, as well as administrative duties within the events office as needed. At all times, the individual is expected to be professional and provide highest level of service to other CIC staff, CIC members and their guests.

Member Events Intern

The member events intern helps in gathering speaker bios/headshots, creating event sheets, assisting with event set-ups and confirming/checking set-ups. The individual also will assist with compiling event sheet packets (printing, copying and distributing) for weekly staff meetings. Additionally, this position is known as the CIC site contact for speakers/entertainers/presenters during CIC member events, greeting and assisting in setting up for their respective program. The intern also assists as host for CIC events, registering members upon arrival, introducing speakers at events, conducting Q&A sessions when appropriate and distributing/collecting program surveys. The member events intern will help execute the event in whatever way is determined by the event coordinator, and when possible will stay to assist the operations team with set ups, tear downs and resets. This position is not limited to working member events, and at times, will be asked to assist the events team with other event types, as well as administrative duties as needed. At all times, the individual is expected to be professional and provide highest level of service to other CIC staff, CIC members and their guests.

Recreation & Youth Events Intern

This position focuses primarily on executing recreation activities and events; such as golf, tennis, pickleball, fitness, fishing and yoga. The recreation and youth events intern also assists with Thursday Kids Camp and Quiet Night Out. The intern helps in detailing parties, creating event sheets, assisting with event set-ups and confirming/checking set-ups. This position also is known as the site contact for recreation and youth events, greeting instructor, parents, etc., and assisting in setting up for their program. The intern will register participants and have documentation authorized; such as liability waivers, emergency contact information, etc. The individual also distributes materials and collects program surveys. The recreation and youth events intern will help execute the event in whatever way is determined by the event coordinator, and when possible will stay to assist the operations team with set ups, tear downs and resets. This position is not limited to working recreation and youth events, and at times, will be asked to assist the events team with other event types, as well as administrative duties as needed. At all times, the individual is expected to be professional and provide highest level of service to other CIC staff, CIC members and their guests.

Weddings Intern

The weddings intern helps in detailing weddings, creating event sheets, assisting with wedding set-ups, confirming/checking set-ups and assisting with dinner service, tear-downs and resets. This position is not limited to working weddings, and at times, will be asked to assist the events team with other event types, as well as administrative duties as needed. At all times, the individual is expected to be professional and provide highest level of service to other CIC staff, CIC members and their guests.

Youth Programming

This position assists with family and youth programming to ensure safe, fun and memorable experiences for CIC members and their children; such as Thursday Kids Camp, Youth Triathlon Week, Mud Hens Family Night, Youth Yoga Day and various field trips. The youth programming intern will greet program presenters, parents, etc., assist with program set up and registration, as well as ensure proper documentation is complete; such as liability waivers, emergency contact information, etc. Additionally, the individual is expected to maintain the highest level of safety and professionalism at all times. Of note, youth programming occurs in multiple CIC departments, including golf, tennis, aquatics, marina and events.

Aquatics

This position assists in the facilitation of day-to-day operations for pool areas and aquatic programs. Such duties include coordinating and supervising the aquatic staff, assisting with one-on-one and group swim lessons and helping with fitness classes in the pool (water aerobics and paddleboard yoga), as well as family programs and events taking place in the aquatic center and/or waterfront. Additionally, the aquatics intern ensures that CIC staff and facilities exceed safety and sanitation practices and compliancy with all state and county health codes. Of note, this position must have a minimum of one year experience as a lifeguard and a current lifeguard certification or be willing to obtain re-certification by time of employment.
